Psychosynthesis

A holistic approach to psychotherapy developed by Roberto Assagioli which seeks to integrate psychological development and spiritual life. In addition to recognising the individual unconscious as does psychoanalysis, it also includes the idea of the collective unconscious proposed by Jung, and also the superconscious or higher self. Hence, as a transpersonal approach, psychosynthesis is concerned with our relationship with something larger than ourselves, however we might experience that, and with the universe at large. It is a very creative approach, involving guided visualisation and drawing. As well as working with the intellect, emotions and creativity, psychosynthesis also highlights the role and training of the will.
